The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf in collaboration with students, families and school districts creates a comprehensive, learning and signing community in a residential environment. MSAD prepares deaf and hard of hearing students to reach their fullest potential by promoting communicative, intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development in every aspect of its programs. MSAD is a free public school with a residential option. MSAD provides educational services to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind children with differentiated instruction in an ASL rich environment that meets all educational standards.

MN State Academies for the Blind are a statewide public school (K-22) with a residential option that accepts students with varying degrees of vision loss from all regions of the state. Our students have direct access to a challenging and rewarding education, provided in an environment with accessible educational materials. (AEM: Braille, large print, audio, digital) are vital for maximizing every student’s academic, cognitive, social-emotional, and self-identity potential.The Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) is foundational to the instructional program and provides a pathway to independence. Instruction in Braille and the use of Braille throughout the student’s educational program, as appropriate to the strengths and needs of the student, is vital for maximizing students’ literacy and academic development. Orientation and Mobility (O&M) skills are vital for students to know where they are and how to safely navigate their world.
