DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to learn how to embroider? Now is your chance! Join the Rice County Historical Society for the second event in our workshop series and learn the basics of embroidery! Our demonstrator Marie Tuma will show participants how to stamp embroidery patterns and start stitching away. Those who sign up will get an embroidery kit\, sewing hoop\, and will walk away with a completed piece! \nMarie Tuma is the Vice President of the Rice County Historical Society and a long-time volunteer. She’s been responsible for several of RCHS’s exhibits as well as helping processing our collections. She has made a hobby of embroidery and quilting\, and recently led a quilting workshop. DESCRIPTION:Join the Rice County Historical Society for Corinne Monjeau-Marz’s talk Metis in Minnesota\, A Story of Us All. The Metis are a people native to Canada whose origins are marked by the mixing of European\, notably French\, and Indigenous Peoples. The Metis people often served as translators and traders during the Fur Trade. Learn about the Metis in Minnesota and their importance throughout Minnesota history. \nCorinne L. Monjeau-Marz is an independent historian\, researcher\, and author and makes her home in Cottage Grove\, Minnesota. The focus of her study and traveling is related to the Early Explorers & Indigenous Contact\, the Early Portage& Fur Trade Routes\, and the 1862 US-Dakota War. For over sixty years she has been collecting antique images and documents now used in her writing projects\, programs offered\, and in her business\, Minnesota Territory (books and images). She is Minnesota-born and is a descendant of French-Canadian\, English\, German immigrants\, and Minnesota’s Mdewakanton Dakota\, Northern Minnesota Ojibwe\, and Wisconsin Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) People. \nProgram is free for members\, $5 for non-members.
