The Metis are a people native to Canada whose origins are marked by the mixing of European\, notably French\, and Indigenous Peoples. The Metis people often served as translators and traders during the Fur Trade. Learn about the Metis in Minnesota and their importance throughout Minnesota history. \nCorinne L. Monjeau-Marz is an independent historian\, researcher\, and author and makes her home in Cottage Grove\, Minnesota. The focus of her study and traveling is related to the Early Explorers & Indigenous Contact\, the Early Portage& Fur Trade Routes\, and the 1862 US-Dakota War. For over sixty years she has been collecting antique images and documents now used in her writing projects\, programs offered\, and in her business\, Minnesota Territory (books and images). She is Minnesota-born and is a descendant of French-Canadian\, English\, German immigrants\, and Minnesota’s Mdewakanton Dakota\, Northern Minnesota Ojibwe\, and Wisconsin Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) People. \nProgram is free for members\, $5 for non-members.
